Ten reasons why I love Prague

Ten reasons why I love Prague

1. Great public transport that gets you everywhere at (nearly) every hour of the day or night. And all this for a bargain price. Get yourself a ticket that covers your whole stay and off you go – exploring. Take a chance, pick a bus, tram, metro line by chance, drive to the end station and explore what is there. Get yourself off the beaten track!

2. Cheap food and drinks, especially outside the more touristy areas. Try pickled hermelin (type of local Camembert) cheese with bread and a pint of pivo (beer) and you pay for such a filling lunch less then k100 (<3£/ 4$)

3. It is a “walkable” city, the main attractions are nearly all in a relatively small area and whilst walking you can discover things you wouldn’t notice from a fast moving vehicle like the famous “Antique Books and everything else” shops.

4. The zoo  is great, one of the Top10 worldwide, in a scenic location, partly on a hill, overlooking the river valley. Normal entrance fee is 150k (4.5£/6$) for an adult, but a yearly ticket is only 500k (around 16£/$20). And they have Przewalski horses ;-)

5. Young people give up their seat, without fuss, in buses, trams and metros for seniors and - women! There is still a healthy respect for other people that has unfortunately been lost in so many other countries.

6. Beautiful architecture, including art deco buildings, every turn of the way reveals something to marvel about. Some part of the city like the Jewish quarter Josefa or Nove Mesto are full with these kind of discoveries.

7. The best behaved dogs I have met so far. Seriously, Czech people have a gift for dog training!

8. Real winters, after having lived in England with its gray and wet and horrible winters, I do enjoy the cold and the snow.

9. Parks, gardens and forests. Lost of trees and green, even in the city center and easy to reach walking/ hiking areas like the Sarka valley just at the outskirts of Prague.

10. Museums, historic churches, exhibitions, art galleries, concert halls, theaters (even English language ones ;-).

What do you love about the place where you live? Leave a comment ;-)
